Foreign language learning is among the most interesting, enjoyable, and enriching activities that people from all over the world are spending their time on. Learning languages has been proven to be very effective because it comes in handy for future usage. Having the ability to speak foreign languages aside from one’s native tongue can guarantee communication with more people, better job opportunities, as well as better chances of improving one’s interests.

Learning foreign languages is quite fascinating since language learners will have the opportunity to know step-by-step the process of acquiring a new language as well as exploring the history and culture of where the language came from. There are many ways of learning foreign languages and more techniques are used to ensure better and faster language learning.

Most foreign language learners learn their target languages by going to language schools either in their area or abroad. Language schools can help learners achieve their goals by teaching them the basics such as the four language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening; vocabulary; grammar; and a lot more. Full language immersion has also been proven to be very effective since language learners hear and speak only their target language for a certain period of time.

Learning in language schools and through other organized courses is very helpful yet they have a catch: they come with a price! What do language learners have to do in order to learn languages through cheaper, easier, and more convenient ways?

Music. Music is one of the best tools and means for learning languages without going through a lot of fuss. Music is interesting and it helps language learners become more inclined to learn their target languages since music brings languages to life. Music is used all over the world for communication and it can be shared and enjoyed among people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Music allows language learners to relax and loosen up in their learning atmosphere where music will help provide a pleasant environment for the process of learning. If catching the attention of language learners is an issue, music can help with that issue since music is captivating and interesting. Music can also help reduce pressure and tension in learning foreign languages and it has a remarkable effect in a person’s memory. Most people who learned songs since childhood can still remember those words verbatim regardless of what language those songs are in, even when they grow older; it is the same case for learning languages through music.

In several language schools, there are some language teachers who use music and songs in their classes and one of the main reasons is that it creates a good learning ambiance. Students also find it easier to relate to music as part of entertainment rather than as a learning task. The target language set to music as lyrics is more interesting to repeat many times compared to the usual pronouncing and reading of words repeatedly.

Music helps improve the ability of language learners to remember words easily and it can help in the shortening the period of time in acquiring the language. Music can help language learners to build their confidence in learning their target language since it has a lighthearted feel to it and not as formal and strict as the usual methods of language learning.

Learning foreign languages through music is great however it is not recommended as sole language learning method since not all songs will be able to teach basic and correct grammar and sentence skills. Learning languages through music can be considered just a very effective learning supplement that should not be taken for granted but should be integrated with other language learning methods.

Music helps in learning foreign languages and songs reveal stories from the culture and language where they came from. If you are learning a foreign language right now, include music in your program and help yourself achieve fluency faster and easier!

Something that you take along with you in places you are unfamiliar of in order to assist you with the challenges of language barriers. A language translation device is far better than a handy translation dictionary because it has the ability to decipher a whole field of text to be translated in the foreign language you choose. It can handle Spanish, French, German and English translations between any pairing accordance.

And it is easy to use. You will just have to choose a language pair and you enter the text you want to be translated, then you press the translate button and presto! You can now communicate the language you want. It is amazing how you can get by with what could have been impossible to communicate with just the tap of the button. Now you can carry on with whatever travel venture you may have without having to worry about encountering obstacles especially with regards to language and communication barriers. However, inevitably we can’t help questioning the accuracy of such language translation device. What about the complex sentences how well could it handle? The best way to be understood by others is to use simple words and plain sentences, without the unnecessary icing on the cake. The device may find it hard to read superfluous terms, which in such case will revert to original words for translation, instead. The best thing about this device is easy communication. You can send foreign messages translated to your intention much like simple texts. And reports have suggested that communication is established satisfactorily 90%. But it is only as far as communicating simple words is concerned. Don’t rely on it completely because only school-instigated learning can accurately and fully teach a language with all the correct and legal usage.

Language is a complex system especially when you are just starting to immerse yourself to a foreign tongue. But the many meanings and different grammatical structures of foreign languages will make it easier for you to deal with the use of this application. This device works best when you need assistance in your direction queries, accommodation inquiries, and aiding you where to eat or how to get done with fare rides, among a list of other things. It does a remarkable job if you keep your messages straightforward and simple.

<img src="http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/11/74/66/71/langua15.jpg" alt="Your Edge in the Knowledge of Foreign Language" title="Your Edge in the Knowledge of Foreign Language" / style="float:left;margin:3px"/>A foreign language is a language different from our own. It is a medium spoken by people in a certain place. Some foreign languages can be strange and difficult to understand that learning seem complicated, nevertheless getting around to learning can actually be fun. To begin with, curiosity gets you warmed up. If you cultivate it, it can actually lead you a long way ahead. Curiosity makes you do what you can to comprehend the matter. Whether your aim is to satisfy your personal aspirations, intellectual curiosity or simply your holistic love of the foreign country by doing a ‘Språkresor’, whatever your reason is: this are all factors that have to do something with your curiosity. Secondly, your interests drive you. It drives you to explore. An interest starts with a clear idea of your motivation and what you want to know, a new language in this case. Identification of your reasons makes you concentrate on your aims and gradually improve well as you study.

If you have a passion for Spain you go beyond the physical aspects that made you love the place. Going deeper and learning the language is an exciting activity. The task makes you feel involve in the foreign world and not foreign to the local tongue. You might achieve this by visiting many latin places in the world, Salamanca, Madrid, Valladolid, or going further, and visiting Latin America, Chile, Argentina, you and some friends might even stay in some Buenos Aires apartments, and really feel like your at home in a foreign land. When you thoroughly got the knowledge you can harmonize into the community and be able to communicate well. However, it takes time and real effort to learn a language, but as you do so you further learn their culture and traditions. You smoothly understand how things are that begins with your understanding of the language. The challenge and fun of learning a foreign language applies in many other instances. Most instances happen at a time least expected, and in an instance when unexpectedly your job requires you to connect with people who speaks differently, you can then communicate well with them. Well, your interests lead you to one way or another. Learning a foreign language can open good opportunities for you. It can even increase your chances of getting a suitable job or at least put you on an elevated standing. Only few people can speak a foreign tongue since most of us consider it a waste of time, if not have the interest for it. That fact alone puts you an edge over most people. Think about it.

<img src="http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/11/74/66/71/englis11.jpg" alt="When a Foreign Language Breaks Barriers" title="When a Foreign Language Breaks Barriers" / style="float:left;margin:3px"/>I have had met a number of people who are from other parts of the world and honestly, I must admit I have almost developed a fear towards foreigners. That baseless fear came about not only because foreigners have a different physical appearance, but basically since they speak a language that is totally alien to me.

I have met Japanese, French, Chinese, Korean and German (in a sprachreise) people during different times and situations through mutual friends and relatives. The truth is I tried to hide from their view but then I wasn’t able to evade them totally. I assumed I wouldn’t be able to communicate with them since they came from supposedly strange lands but hey, as time went by I realized we all had something in common—we all know how to speak English! I never really got to talk a lot with them since they never stayed for long and they were just passing by in our country, but every now and then we still communicate through email and in the language most of us understand—English!

One of my foreign friends Ian (the one from Germany), happens to be my godmother’s son and every now and then he calls up or sends emails in order to catch up with what is going on over here in my hometown. He had been here a few years ago and my friends and I gave him a grand tour of the city. Ian was born here but he eventually grew up in Germany since that is where his father came from. Ian acquired the German language when he was still a small boy but his parents continued to speak to him in English that is why it is still a part of his treasure trove of languages (He speaks Spanish and French as well. No kidding!). During his stay here we communicated in English since he can barely speak in my native dialect and I can barely converse in German. We may have come from different parts of the world but one language broke communication barriers for us and we are grateful for that.

I, unlike Ian and other multilingual people, only know English and I am only familiar with the native dialect of my hometown and the national language of my country. Technically I can be called a multilingual person but in the wider scope of the world, the only foreign language I know is English. I must say I envy those who can speak more than 3 or 5 languages but I am proud that I am not that far behind in the world since I know at least one foreign language.

I have considered learning other foreign languages but I don’t know which I should choose. I am interested in all of them but I must figure out which one will be very useful for me in the future either for career or travel opportunities or simply just for fun. Well, I am still young and I am interested in expanding my horizons. I wouldn’t be surprised if I will learn to speak two more foreign languages instead of one and I will be more than delighted to be able to communicate with more people from different parts of the world!

Consider involving yourself in different online games to interact and make friends who speak your target language - whether it is in a casino en ligne to speak French or a German chat room about gardening, you’re sure to enjoy and it’s a lot more fun than reading grammar books!

<img src="http://i27.servimg.com/u/f27/11/74/66/71/learni10.gif" alt="Learning English is having Fun" title="Learning English is having Fun" / style="float:left;margin:3px"/>IF you have just started learning English in your junior year in high school here in Spain, then be good at it. For learning English can really make you competitive once you enter university by the time you have graduated in high school. Out there in the university, there are lots of subjects which are taken in English simply because it’s the only way to be competitive globally. I mean, you certainly cannot migrate to Canada and work as a civil engineer there if you are learning civil engineering in a Spanish university only in Spain. Practicality is definitely the name of the game.

So this early, start being serious in learning your English. Don’t settle for a passing grade but maximize your learning of the stuff instead. There are indeed lots of things you can do to maximize your learning English. Log in to the Internet for example and read articles in English. You may also want to chat so you can practice your English skills more. There are lots of platforms to chat. There’s mIRC. There’s Yahoo! Messenger. There’s Windows Live Messenger. Or, for those who love a bit of excitement, there’s gaming sites where you can chat and have one to one English classes with your fellow competitors, playing poker online for example.

One degree that is certainly feasible to take in college if you are in Spain nowadays is in economics. After all, it is not just Spain but the whole financial world in Europe that is constantly monitoring economic events in the United States whose imminent recession due to the collapse of the mortgage market has been prevented by the constant Federal Reserve rate cut and Congress’s passage of a tax break scheme. And while studying economics for eight academic semesters at the Universidad de Madrid, why not surf through the English business channels in your television. Notable among these business channels are Bloomberg and CNBC. You will surely learn a lot. And on the side, you may want to browse CNNMoney.com, the world’s most comprehensive financial news website. If your dad has a monthly subscription of Fortune, then read its contents religiously to hone your English skills and merge them with your passion in the field of economics. On Bloomberg, you will chance upon really good content accidentally. While writing this article, I’m watching Bloomberg for example and right now, the one interviewed on screen is none other than Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman. The guy was awesome during the interview. He was so confident, upbeat and bullish about the current writers’ strike in Hollywood that has little effect on his business simply because the TV stations under Viacom’s fold are not major networks. He also says that he is continuing a healthy professional relationship with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen through the company they own, Dreamworks Pictures.

If you aim to become an environmentalist, then watching the Discovery Channel is a must. Last night, I was watching a documentary about prehistoric sea species millions of years before man came. There were giant scorpions and fish with soft backbones. The documentary was awesome.

<img src="http://i24.servimg.com/u/f24/11/74/66/71/learni12.jpg" alt="Learning Another Language is Fabulous" title="Learning Another Language is Fabulous" /style="float:left;margin:3px"/>IF you come from Madrid, you may want to learn another dialect in Spain so you can travel to other areas and converge with the locals. For example, if you want to travel to the Andalucian region, you may want to know their local dialect there so you can be given fresh yummy fish where you can grill later on in your vacation home garnished with olive oil. Among the top dialects in Spain are Catalan and Basque. So if you are armed with these languages, you can easily go to Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Tenerife and Las Palmas. The latter two is already located in Africa. But if you really want to explore the rest of the Spanish-speaking population in the world, then go to the Americas from as affluent as Florida to as cold as Chile bordering on Antarctica.

Back home, there are already lots of tourists in Spain so it wouldn’t hurt learning another European language either. There are vast numbers of British tourists here every year and so learning British English is really an advantage if you want to take a shot in investing or working in the local hospitality industry here in Spain. Take note that British English is peculiarly different from American English because it distinctly lacks the r sound. That is what is called as the non-rhotic accent. The non-rhotic accent can be traced back to the 15th century when certain words in English such as barse are changed to bass. A similar form of non-rhotic accent is practiced Down South in Australasia which comprises the countries of Australia and New Zealand as well as the New England states in upper United States.

Meanwhile, American English is practiced in the United States and half of Canada. The other half of Canada by the way speak French. Speaking of French, it is a language which is entirely European in origin and it even came from a place just in the border with Spain – France. But if your trip is to go all the way across the Atlantic this Christmas season, then go to Quebec or any other city in Montreal so you can learn French. You may want to explore the tourist spots in Montreal such as the Old Montreal, Plateau Mont Royal, Basilique Notre Dame and Christ Church Cathedral. Or you may want to visit the towering Olympic Stadium. Built for the 1976 Olympics, it is the world’s tallest leaning structure.

Meanwhile, the European Union has consistently urged all its citizens to learn another language. This is to uncreate the Babel-like world that has persisted Europe nowadays. Europe is the smallest continent in the world and a contiguous one at that yet each country speaks a different language. But languages in Spain originate from two languages though – Germanic and Frankish. These two languages were merged together by the conquering Romans and spread as different languages such as modern-day German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Finnish, Norwegian, Scottish, Irish and English.

You can see all these countries, experiencing their languages and rich cultures, by investing in Europe trains passes. They offer the traveller flexibility and so he/she can really make the most of their time abroad without haven’t to worry about journey restrictions (nor extra costs!)

ONE can surely get rich just by teaching a second language. Imagine yourself being a Briton and you venture out to Thailand to teach English there as a second language. Most of the students there are those applying for work in beach resorts in Phuket and they want to learn English because lots of tourists there speak English. It is also a requirement of the Thai tourism ministry that the tourism workers in Thailand must know how to speak English.

Thus, English language programs are proliferating in that country. These language schools are subsidized not just by the government but international benefactor agencies such as the Canada International Development Agency (CIDA), USAID, Asian Development Bank and World Bank. So if you’re planning to teach English as a second language there, your salary is mostly subsidized by these funding agencies to the tune of about $4,000. That’s a lot already.

And there are not just Britons who are teaching English in Thailand. There are also Filipinos there. The rationale there is that Britons teach the non-rhotic English accent while Filipinos, who are Americanized, teach the rhotic accent. It is not just a financial opportunity for these English teachers. In Thailand, you will also get to see the Phuket views for free. And since one is an English teacher, you can surely have great discounts to all resort facilities such as its spa and scuba diving facilities. You haven’t known how beautiful Phuket is? Then watch the movie The Beach starring Virginie Ledoyen. You will see the glowing planktons all around the beach during moonless nights. That’s a very fascinating view indeed.

And that’s not all. You can also moonlight as a Hollywood dialogue coach in Thailand. Once in a while, there are major Hollywood productions dropping by here such as Stealth a few years back. They employ local actors and actresses who are not familiar in English and it’s your job to be a Hollywood dialogue coach. Once it has entered your resume, you can surely have a very promising career ahead. You may even go back to your home country in the Philippines where Bigfoot has a huge production facility in the island of Mactan in Cebu. In fact, there’s a current movie being shot there starring a Cambodian model by the name of Bebe Pham. If you’re her dialogue coach, then Bigfoot pays as much.

In the United States, English language teachers are also in need. There are lots of minorities living in the United States and most of them speak the Spanish language. They mostly come from Puerto Rico, Mexico and Cuba. Or else, the reverse happens. Some Caucasians want to do business in Mexico and want to learn English. So putting up a Spanish language school in the United States is financially feasible too. They are mostly sprouting in El Paso, Texas because it’s just a stone’s throw away from Ciudad Juarez of Mexico where there are lots of US factories there, thanks to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
